NO MORE SECS!!!
Texting is one of the most recent teenage addictions (but that’s a topic for another day). Computers, however, take a close second. Seems I find my teenagers still connected to the computer much later than I would like on any given school night. No one does that much homework. Anyway, late the other evening, when all was quiet in my house, I walked past my middle daughter’s room to find her still on the computer. I said, “That’s enough—time for bed.” Her very calm response to me was, “One more sec.” Already tired, you know I didn’t hesitate to jump on that comment, to which I yelled, “NO—no more secs—now get to bed.” Who says that? Secs—that’s not what it sounds like when you say it, ya know. The look on her face was priceless–afraid to laugh because I was angry–yet laughter absolutely leaking out thru her pores—and MINE.
So, today’s challenge is to remember that while discipline is important, don’t forget to take a minute to laugh at the unexpected. And remember loving those kids is of the utmost importance, no matter how upset they can make us on any given day. As always, you are the Best and good things are coming your way. And don’t be surprised if today might give you an unexpected opportunity or two or three to laugh. That’s not funny—okay, maybe it is. Don’t take yourself so seriously—like me. Think you’re tough enough to take the challenge? As always, I’m in this with you. Make me proud!
