Who gets tired once in a while? Who gets frustrated? Don’t be afraid–go ahead–raise your hand. I knew it. All of us do. Seems just when things are going along well–BAMMM–you run headlong into a brick wall. Now that can certainly cause some frustration and pain–to say nothing about your aching head and possible concussion.
Why are those brick walls there? If I only had a dollar for ever time I’ve asked that question.
I learned this recently, but it makes a lot of sense. The brick walls are there to see how much you really want something. If it’s not important, you will take your bandaged head and bruised ego, and limp away. If you really want something badly enough, you will face that brick wall again and again–more than willing to face the pain and agony one more time, in the hopes of breaking thru. How much do you really want something?
So, today’s challenge is to decide that facing the brick way head-on is worth the effort, the strategizing, and the pay-off. Remember, while most of the time we aren’t ever going to get thru that brick wall, we do have options–how about around, under, or even over the wall? Think you’re tough enough to take today’s challenge? I know you are–and so am I! Meet me at the top–or side–or better yet, you tell me where. I’ll bring the bandaids and the ice pack. You bring the talent, the dreams, and the ambition. See you there. Make me proud!

Remember me? I’m the one who doesn’t have the green thumb–the one whose gardening adventures are just that. Daughter #1 decided that pre-Calc was the wrong choice for her and has switched–to Botany. Oh, great—a class I can’t help her with (like I could have helped her with pre-Calculus). Starting late, a project was already underway, so she spent the evening collecting and classifying–bugs, more bugs, and flowers and plants. Suddenly, this became a group activity. Everyone in the family was hunting for pests and sniffing for flowers. At one point, I looked up to find my Valerie holding a tennis shoe in one hand and a baggie in the other–quick Mom, see the spider? Hit it with the shoe or put it in the baggie? Later, I noticed my lovely rose on my dining room table reduced to just a bare stem. Kinda like that empty jar of peanut butter or mayo or milk that sometimes gets left in the frig.
So, today’s task is to be flexible and adapt, taking some time to allow everyone to stretch their wings and grow. At least someone did throw away the headless rose before I got home from work. Looks like we just might be making some progress, after all. Ahhh! The sweet smell of success! You are the Best and good things are coming your way! And today will be filled with an occasional pest and lots of chances to be flexible. Make me proud!

Guess what? I won the football pool! I know–I’m excited! It wasn’t a huge amount of money, but to tell you the truth, when I handed over my money, I really did kiss it goodby. Think you’re not lucky? I never win, right? Stop saying that! I did! I won! You’re still saying it? Think maybe that’s why you don’t win?
Today’s task is to notice all the times in a day that you say something negative, like that. “I never win!” “It doesn’t matter what I do…” “I can’t…” “That ALWAYS happens to me.” “Why should I even try?” Today’s task is to STOP IT! Yep, I’m talking to you. STOP IT! The very next time that you find yourself uttering those negative phrases, if only to yourself in your head, STOP IT! Say to yourself, “Why not?” Why not be the one who wins? Why not be the one who can? Why not be the one who does? Why not try? Why not be the one that nothing bad ever happens, too? Okay, so maybe even I can get too positive, but today let’s make a change. Stop that negative thinking!
You are the Best! I’m positive! And today will be filled with the opportunity to stop that negative thinking from affecting your life. I know you can do it! I’m expecting great things from you! And today is going to be a day filled with positively good things! Okay, so it might take just a little bit of practice, even beyond today. Think you’re tough enough to take the challenge? I know you are! Make me proud!

Today’s challenge is to make a difference! You know I’m just one person. How in the world can I, all by myself, make a difference? That was pretty easy, huh? Got us out of that one pronto, didn’t I? Oh, no! I’m not letting you off so easy, my friend. Not letting myself off the hook either.
Today’s focus is going to be on someone other than yourself–or myself. Today, it is our job to look for someone who is struggling, and help them, whether it’s lending a listening ear or a helpful hand. Today, we’ll move the focus away from our struggles and concerns. I will admit it might be tough to do, but it’s about time, isn’t it? I know it is for me.
Think you’re tough enough to take the challenge? I know you are–and so am I! After all, you are the Best and good things are coming your way! And today will be a splendid opportunity to re-focus your sights on the positive, take a few steps forward, and whether you know it or not, change the world. You can do it–and so can I! If you already do this each and every day, you are indeed my hero! And I will be giving extra credit if you pass this challenge on to one person or many. Make me proud!!!

You know it’s all about me, right? Why do all the bad things happen–to me? Why doesn’t someone help–me? Who’s going to take care–of me? Why isn’t the spotlight–on me? Ever say those words yourself? Ever heard someone else say them? I won’t tell your secrets, if you don’t tell mine!
Today’s task is to look at your past, your present, and your future, asking yourself this question. What have I given–to anyone? to even one person? What did I give–today? And how about taking a minute to plan what you’re going to give to someone tomorrow. And I will be giving extra credit today if you choose to give to more than one person. And you are my hero if you already give each and every day, with no thought of what you might get in return. You are the Best and good things are coming your way. And today is going to be a shining opportunity to take a step toward the bright side. Bring your sunglasses and I’ll see you there! Make me proud!!!
