NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!

“What other people think of you is none of your business.” ~Unknown

I’ve worked with numerous characters over the years.  When I worked at CopyMax when the girls were little, I worked with a gruff man who was pretty good at hiding his marshmallow interior.  He grumbled to me one day that he wanted me to know that he was in a terrible mood and he wanted to be very crabby, but he felt compelled to be nice to me since I had been so helpful teaching him and was being nice to him.  You know me–I’m going for a smile, in even your worst mood, so I answered, “That’s okay with me.  You can be miserable–as long as that makes you happy!”  You know he had to laugh–he didn’t even have half a chance at being grumpy around me.  Ever found yourself being pulled down by people who are spending all their time complaining and being miserable?  Seems being miserable must make them happy, too.  You can go there, but I’ll tell you right now–I’m not going with you.

Today’s task is to put on some blinders–okay, I guess ear plugs would work better.  Seems people who aren’t happy, like to throw a wrench in the works for those us who are.  Let’s not let them win.  You are a winner!  Stay focused on your goals–your purpose in this life.  Remember attitude is everything.  What other people say about your efforts shouldn’t be allowed to bring you down.  Don’t listen to negative people–people who are miserable seem to want to bring everyone into their club–and lots of times, we get pulled in–and the effect?  We feel miserable and get slowed down from doing what it is that we do best–what we’re meant to do to help others–and from being happy.  Think you’re strong enough to keep plowing ahead, step-by-step, to your destination–strong enough to fight off those negative forces?  I know it’s tough–I’ve been there a time or two or three–but I’m in.  How ’bout you?  You are the Best!!!  And today will be filled with fortitude, plenty of belief in yourself, and courage to pull ahead.  Lead the way.  Make me proud!!!

DO IT ANYWAY!!!

Don’t know about you, but I’ve got lots of excuses for my sins of omission, those things that I don’t do.

I can’t hold a door open for someone–they might get upset and tell me that they can do it themselves.
DO IT ANYWAY!

I can’t share my umbrella in this downpour.  They might think I want something from them.
DO IT ANYWAY!

I can’t offer a suggestion to help.  They’ll think I was eavesdropping.
DO IT ANYWAY!

I can’t do my job to the fullest.  You know I’m worth lots more than I get paid.
DO IT ANYWAY!

I can’t take a minute to drop a card in the mail when you’re sick or lose a loved one or just because I’m thinking of you.  That would cause me to be considerate and cost me the price of a card and a stamp.  You know I’m saving for my next vacation.
DO IT ANYWAY!

Today’s task is to look for something that might not cost you a penny to do, but would require an extra bit of kindness, consideration, or thought.  You are the Best and good things are coming your way.  And today will present you with many opportunities to lighten someone’s load, to lift their spirits, and to make them smile…because you took a minute to care.  Don’t have the time–DO IT ANYWAY!  Make me proud!

IT NEVER SNOWS ON A GOLF COURSE!!!

Drove past the country club this morning and noticed the snow–on the golf course.  When I worked in the Mayor’s Office, the Mayor had two bodyguards–one who stayed in the office and one who travelled with the Mayor.  Well, Les, was one of the Mayor’s bodyguards.  He had a favorite hobby when he wasn’t working and what do you think that hobby was?  Golfing!!!  His comment one cold winter morning was that he was going golfing.  I teased him about that, saying, “Les, isn’t there snow on the golf course?”  His response was, “Anne, it NEVER snows on a golf course.”

Today’s task is to remember to take everything you’ve learned, all your common sense, and do it right, but remember to dream.  Les was right.  There is no snow on a golf course–at least somewhere in the world on any given day!!!  Dare to dream–and don’t forget to take a minute to enjoy life!  You are the Best and good things are coming your way–even if it’s just a short trip to the golf course.  And today is going to be filled with high hopes, some sunshine, and blue skies.  Meet me at the clubhouse!  Make me proud!!!

SPRING IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!!!

Woke to bright sunshine streaming through my window–that’s my favorite way to wake.  Seems winter’s been long for me this year–as I looked out the window, I had to squint my eyes due to the unusual brightness–caused by the reflection of lots of fluffy snow covering the entire landscape.  Today is Easter!  Don’t remember having snow on Easter before.  Well, it is an early Easter, I will concede.  Got two choices today–see the snow as beautiful or look at it as another day of winter.  I choose beautiful today!  Think winter will never end?  I’m envisioning all those spring flowers pushing their heads up through the snow to feel the warmth of the sun.  Spring is just around the corner!

Got a favorite season?  I sure do!  You knew it, right?  My favorite season would have to be Spring, right?  It’s a time of new starts and rebirth.  Today’s task is to sweep out all the snow from your brain (okay, maybe you’ll have to use a snow shovel), but get ready.  Spring is right around the corner.  I can’t wait.  Before you know it, we’ll be enjoying the beauty of spring flowers, buds on the trees, and warm, sunny days.  I’m ready–how ’bout you?  You are the Best and good things are coming your way!  And today will be filled with celebration and praise and renewed hope for all things good!  Be a part of the good things!  I have faith in you and am expecting great things from you!  Make me proud!

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING…

…if you don’t know that it’s impossible.

Read a story recently of a math major who was late to class one day at his university.  He took the scheduled test, but noticed two problems on the board–tried to complete them, but was stumped by the end of the scheduled time and asked the teacher if he might take the problems home with him to complete, which he did.  It took him three days to complete one of the problems and he finally had to give up on the second problem.  He couldn’t find a solution.  He turned in his solution to the professor–who was in shock.  Turns out by being late, the student hadn’t heard that the two problems listed on the board were samples of problems that were impossible to solve.

Think he’d have been able to solve that problem if he’d have been told that it couldn’t be solved?  Think he’d have even tried?  Today’s task is to get ready–you heard me–I mean it.  The next time that word impossible pops up–don’t dismiss the idea without considering that it might be possible.  Could be that no one has used it yet.  You are the Best and good things are coming your way.  Don’t let the impossible stop you.  As always, I’m in this with you.  Nothing is impossible.  The impossible just takes a little longer.  And today will be filled with plenty of new opportunities.  Make me proud!!!

WHEN IN DOUBT….

Today’s challenge is to get better organized.  Even if you are the King or Queen of Organization, you know we all save things.  So, today’s task is to choose a day to go through that junk room or junk drawer or garage or attic or basement and get organized.  Definitely keep the important things, but let’s get tough on ourselves about those things that “we just might use some day…if we can even remember where we put them, right?”  When you hesitate about getting rid of something, use my Mom’s favorite saying, “When in doubt, throw it out.”  Now, you might know by now that my Mom is Her Royal Highness of Organization.  She has a place for everything and everything has a place.  Think you’re tough enough to let the Queen rule in your home?  When in doubt, throw it out!

My Mom spent her whole life dreaming about owning a house with a library and she finally got it.  Told me the other day that she had determined to weed out some of her books in the library.  I talked to her the next day and she very proudly told me how hard she had worked in the library–and determined that one book could go–to a new home–just ONE!  Then, she giggled….guess even the best organizers might have some rooms that are just exempt from the “rule”.  You are the Best!  Today is going to be a day to fight those “pack-rat” habits, if you’re like me.  And if you could stand toe-to-toe with my Mom, the Queen of Organization, I will be giving you extra credit if you can get even more organized.  Make me proud!!!

WRITERS WRITE!!!

It is with great pleasure that I announce that the morning emails are going to be published.  I submitted the final pieces of my manuscripts today.  I will update you as I go thru the publishing process on 2–count ‘em–2, not 1.  And I will let you know when the books will be available for your library and the libraries of everyone you know who could use a great way to start each day–to being the very Best!  Please accept my most sincere gratitude for your encouragement and support.  Because of YOU, I am a writer!!!  You are the Best!!!

**********************************************************************************************

Do you know anyone who is good at writing?  I know that I do–lots of good writers, but most of them tell me about the book they’re going to write–some day!  It’s pretty basic.  What do you have to do to be a writer?  Writers write!  They don’t write for an hour.  They don’t write for a day.  They don’t have to write 24-hours a day, but they do need to write a little bit each day, every week.  Seems after years of my Mom telling me that I should be writing every day–my excuses varied over the years–spent too much time at work, cleaning the house, taking care of husband, then one child–then two–then three–and there’s always the pets and the cars and the house that needs something.  Finally, I made writing a priority in my life–not sure I can call myself an author yet, but I am, most definitely, a writer.  WRITERS WRITE!!!

Today’s task is to choose an activity that you have always enjoyed, but haven’t given the space that it deserves in your life.  Is it painting?  Is it writing?  Maybe it’s just getting organized to make your life easier–overall.  Could it be golfing?  Is it woodworking?  As always, the choice is yours.  How much or how little time you allot for this special activity is up to you, but today’s the day to decide that it deserves some space.  You are the Best and good things are definitely coming your way.

BE A PROFESSIONAL…EVEN WHEN YOU’RE JUST A BEGINNER!!!

“You can learn new things at any time in your life if you’re willing to be a beginner.  If you actually learn to like being a beginner, the whole world opens up to you.”  ~Barbara Sher

Ever met somebody who seems to know everything about everything?  These characters are pretty daunting, aren’t they?  Do they have you convinced?  Have to admit that I’ve met a few people like that.  And since they seemed to be the final word on certain areas which they claimed to be their expertise, I listened–then found out after wasting a lot of time AND money, that they didn’t have a clue.  You know we learn from everything, right?  Even the failures–here’s what I learned from my assumption that they knew it all.  I learned that’s it’s a lot smarter for me to face being a beginner in a new and exciting area I haven’t explored before–and much better to ask the questions of experts and find the answers MYSELF.

So, today’s challenge is to face the fear of not being an expert–don’t be afraid to learn something new.  And if you’re depending upon a mentor, make sure your source is truly reliable–not just someone who sounds like they know what’s going on.  It’s worth the extra time, it’s worth the extra phone calls, it’s worth the effort–get the right information.  Surround yourself with others more knowledgeable than you, but don’t be afraid to ask questions.  You are the Best and good things are coming your way!  And today will be the opportunity to open new worlds.  So much to learn–so little time.  Get going!  Make me proud!!!
