PAINFUL TO BE BEAUTIFUL…OR FUNNY?
We’ve got a special event coming soon–my parents’ 50th anniversary–and they said it wouldn’t last!!! So, my daughters and I went on a hunt for the perfect dresses to wear. Now, guys, you might not appreciate what we ladies go through to be beautiful, and ladies, if you dread seeing yourself in the full-length mirrors in 3D, you need to shop with me and my girls!!! We’d definitely give you a different perspective–we’re talking fun. We gathered every different type of style, color, and dress from mini to full-length–from fabrics soft as a kitten to ones so rough they would absolutely leave a mark.
Thank goodness there really are no Fashion Police or Fitting Room Detectives because we violated quantity of gowns allowed in a fitting room. And if you think trying to break the world record for the number of people who could fit into a Bug would be fun, you should see how many people you can fit into an average-sized fitting room. I thought we were a close family before–we proved how much closer we could be that day–we were tight, baby!!! By the time we had tried on everything–virtually everything–I was exhausted–from all the laughter. I laughed so hard that there were tears in my eyes!!!
My girls are tall, but slight in build, but they told me that they didn’t know what designers were thinking–fabric can’t cost that much to only allow them to make outfits in size 0 and size nothing. You know when my skinny-mini 12-year old is squeezing herself into an outfit, we’ve taken thinness to the limit!!!
What made me laugh? Well, let me tell you, we all laughed. There were dresses that made you look like a mermaid, one that Valerie was afraid someone would look into to fix their hair–it was shiny, like a mirror–there were so many layers on one dress, they couldn’t seem to get into the right layer to get the dress on–there was difficulty finding the holes for the arms and mistaking them for the holes for the head–crinoline/netting so rough Laura said ouch, ouch, ouch, as she tried that one on–there was fabric that hugged just a bit too tight–and my girls are musicians–talking about how they couldn’t even have taken a breath to make their instruments play–and at one point, with an outfit that had lacing up the back, Laura thought she’d be funny and imitate the foot on her sister’s derriere to lace it tightly. Gosh, we laughed. We did indeed find the perfect dresses–and we had a lot of fun, too!!!
So, next time someone of the female persuasion asks you how she looks in a new outfit, consider the time, effort, and downright hard work (and maybe some laughter, too) that went into that selection. And guys, I do feel sorry for you that shopping for your clothes could not be nearly as fun as it is for us girls. And today is going to be filled with plenty of opportunity to take something that’s not looked upon as such fun, and make it that way. You are the Best and good things, good times, and good memories are definitely yours for the taking!!! Make me proud!!
…now what about makeup and our hair…hmmm!!!
